Habitat Restoration Planning and Stewardship - 2009 Request For Proposals

The NY-NJ Harbor Estuary Program (HEP), in partnership with the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC), is releasing a request for proposals (RFP) for two grant programs:

-Program A: Habitat Restoration Planning grants
-Program B: Stewardship grants

A total of approximately $163,000 is available, including $118,000 for Habitat Restoration Planning Grants and $45,000 for Stewardship Grants.

These programs are intended to support the NY-NJ Harbor Estuary Program’s Action Plan by addressing one or more of HEP’s major goals. This year, HEP is seeking to fund no more than two substantive projects in each category. The program also gives applicants the option to apply in one or both programs and to link the programs by making the habitat restoration planning project the focus of the stewardship project.

For details on the programs and how to submit a proposal, please refer to HEP’s 2009 RFP (PDF). Applicants may also see the rating criteria for habitat restoration planning (PDF) and stewardship proposals (PDF) to understand how their projects will be evaluated. Full proposals are due by July 17, 2009. A Notice of Intent to submt a proposal for stewardship grants is kindly requested by June 22, 2009.

Informational sessions for Stewardship Grants will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 at:

  • Future City, Inc.
(1045 E Jersey ST, Elizabeth, NJ) at 10 AM
  • Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance
(457 Madison Avenue, 5th Floor, New York, NY) at 3 PM

These sessions are intended to provide guidance on how to prepare a successful application, when a QAPP is required, and address any questions from potential applicants. Please contact Gabriela Munoz at the HEP Office (212-637-3793 or Gabriela@harborestuary.org) to indicate which session you will be attending and to confirm details (any changes will also be announced at this Web site) .
